- Terravera offers a unique opportunity to build the offshore wind value chain as a digital model that enables information and knowledge sharing with academia, the supply industry, and other stakeholders. This makes it easier to collaborate on increasing sustainability performance in the offshore wind industry, says Head of Sustainability in Deep Wind Offshore, John Sverre Rønnevik.
TerraVera Foundation is a non-profit technology foundation that offers an open, digital platform where academia, students, and businesses collaborate to develop objective, research-based sustainability models. Research and data are collected and shared. The goal is to provide different stakeholders with the knowledge to make accurate, sustainable decisions, informed choices, and prioritize resources.
- It is essential to produce renewable energy with the lowest possible emissions, where emission reductions through actual measures in projects rather than climate quotas are important. As a developer, we want to work to ensure that offshore wind has a circular value chain and ensure social sustainability through local value creation, says Rønnevik
Terravera has chosen an approach to sustainability modeling that is scalable and trustworthy. The foundation works to build partnerships and looks at opportunities for overlap between value chains. Deep Wind Offshore wants to contribute to this.
- Initially, we want to look at avoided emissions and increased circularity. The aim is to be able to develop a set of suitable sustainability parameters that we can quickly assess for new offshore wind projects. By having a good baseline, with relevant measurement tools, we will be able to spend time and resources on making improvements from an early stage in new projects, says Rønnevik.
We look forward to working with the Terravera Foundation and the results we will achieve together.
