Last week, it was announced that the Ocean Grid-project has been granted support of NOK 82.7 million through the governmental Green Platform program. Deep Wind Offshore is involved as a project partner together with other leading developers, suppliers and research institutions.
The project will develop new technology, knowledge and solutions that will enable profitable development of offshore wind on the Norwegian shelf, including how the power from offshore wind will be connected to the power grid. The work will include both bottom-fixed and floating wind farms, and in the long run the project could provide new green jobs and increased export revenues.
- We are pleased, together with the other partners, that the project was granted governmental support. This is an important project that we look forward to contributing to. It will build competence for the entire industry and the development of new technology and solutions within the offshore grid will be crucial for the success of a large-scale offshore wind investment in Norway, says electrical engineer in Deep Wind Offshore, Truls Drange.
The support, including project contributions from the partners, triggers a total investment of NOK 125.5 million to develop offshore port networks for the future. Both suppliers and energy companies will actively participate in the project together with the research institutions. The project will be completed over three years.
The Ocean Grid-project will address market design and regulatory issues related to the development and operation of a port network for the connection of large offshore wind farms. It will develop Norwegian technology and the supplier industry for deliveries of new cable designs, subsea technology and floating converter stations.
- We look forward to contributing to an important project where industry and science come together to develop new technology and good solutions that will be crucial to the success of a profitable offshore wind development in Norway. With its world-leading expertise in technology at sea and on the seabed, Norwegian industry has all the prerequisites for developing future solutions for offshore wind in Norway. This is helping to develop the Norwegian supplier industry to also take a position internationally, says Drange.
