Deep Wind Offshore has signed a collaboration agreement with the University of Concepción to strengthen advanced oceanographic research in Chile. The partnership aims to enhance scientific understanding of marine environments and support the development of offshore renewable energy projects along the country’s coastline.

The University of Concepción is a leading institution for oceanographic research in Latin America, with over 50 years of experience in the field. Through this agreement, its Department of Oceanography will provide expertise, research facilities, and access to coastal infrastructure, while Deep Wind Offshore will contribute its knowledge and experience in offshore wind project development.

“This agreement between the University of Concepción and Deep Wind Offshore will allow both institutions to work bidirectionally, given that through the Department of Oceanography of our House of Studies – which has more than 50 years of experience trajectory,” said Dr. Carlos Saavedra Rubilar, Rector of the University of Concepción.

The collaboration will focus on joint research initiatives, student involvement through undergraduate and graduate theses, and potential doctoral scholarships in relevant fields. Additionally, the agreement seeks to foster local engagement and develop a skilled workforce to support Chile’s emerging offshore renewable energy industry.

“We will be able to provide our facilities and equipment on the coast to provide advanced research in oceanography, while DWO will contribute with its extensive knowledge and experience in developing and directing offshore renewable energy projects, so we expect valuable results”, continued Dr. Saavedra Rubilar.

The agreement is set for an initial three-year period and will be automatically renewed unless either party expresses otherwise. By combining expertise in oceanography and offshore wind, this partnership marks a step forward in advancing sustainable energy solutions in Chile.

“A sound scientific backing is crucial to for the success of our projects and collaboration is in the DNA of Deep Wind Offshore. This agreement with the University of Conceptión will benefit both our organizations and involves a number of scientific fields“, said Juan José Gari, Deep Wind Offshore’s Regional Manager Latin America.
